Two cities, two sisters: Georgie, reeling from a failed marriage, takes a quick, lucrative job in Edmonton and ends up catching the eye of a powerful man who’s not used to hearing no. While in Perth, Tara makes a high-stakes decision about her own family - but she’ll need her sister’s support to pull it off. Both soon realise they don’t have the choices they thought they did.

Set against the dramatic, unique backdrops of Western Australia and Alberta and steeped in the gritty industries that make both places tick, will they stay stuck on paths that keep them apart but keep everyone else happy? Or can they find the courage to fight their way back to each other?

I’ll be in conversation with local Alberta-based writers Katie Bickell and Lisa Shenher for the session, which promises a rich discussion of place-based storytelling as Jay, Katie and Lisa talking about how their boom town worlds offer the opportunity to ignite conflict – and connection – on the page.
